The exhaust turbocharger is used to improve the performance and efficiency of diesel engines. The turbocharger thickens the incoming air and forces it into the intake passage allowing more oxygen to flow into the cylinder chamber, thus improving engine efficiency. The turbocharger self is powered by kinetic energy or by the pressure from the resulting gases, hence the name exhaust-gas turbocharger.
